Against everyone’s expectations I was tempted to becoming a Twitter-user.  I had just started – with a few ex-colleagues and ex-bankers like myself – to come to the establishment of  a new banking circuit in the Netherlands, geared towards servicing small businesses. This was a very good excuse for opening a Twitter account: @BankierPaul. The idea is to return to the basics of banking, i.e. to attract savings and lending those savings to potential borrowers. This bank would focus on small business in the Netherlands. It is generally known that in the current banking system lending to small business is regarded is unprofitable, risky en time consuming.  Small businesses have a hard time in getting support from the bankers. Apart from banking, I was for over 50 years engaged in practical philosophy and religion translating a number of Gnostic and early Christian writings and providing the relevant commentaries to those writings. I also invested a lot of time in Indian philosophy (Advaita Vedanta) and meditation. I started as a banker and moved on to become a philosopher and this philosopher is now, once more, returning to act as a banker. A rather varied existence.  The banking site is www.dekredietunie.nl.
